Sonoma United

In 2024, Western United Dairies (Western) formed a new Political Action Committee, Sonoma United, to fight Measure J in Sonoma County. The Sonoma United campaign utilized a combination of direct mail, digital ads, social media, text messages, and grassroots outreach featuring our members, local business owners, and other coalition partners.

Campaign Overview

We sent out a series of five mailers to our targeted universe of likely voters in Sonoma County—approximately 72,000 households. Each piece highlighted Measure J’s impacts.

We also launched a six‐week digital advertising effort targeted at voters in Sonoma County that utilized a combination of social media, display advertisements, and pre‐roll videos. These efforts reached 10,645 unique voters and nearly 434,686 total impressions were delivered across Facebook, Instagram, programmatic display, and pre‐roll video. Pressdemocrat.com, Sonoma County’s local newspaper, was the leading domain for pre‐roll ads and the second highest for display ads, ensuring our ads surrounded local news coverage. Sonoma County voters, who were high-frequency social media users, saw No on J ads an average of 58.9 times.

Below are examples of our social media graphics.

Our voter outreach initiative was instrumental in educating the community about the potentially harmful impacts that Measure J would impose on small, multi-generational family farms in Sonoma County. It is clear our campaign resonated as Measure J was soundly rejected by voters 80%-20%.
